How We Turned a $500 Ad Spend into $5,000 Revenue

A small e-commerce business owner approached us to help manage their campaigns due to the frustration they’ve experienced trying to manage it themselves. At first, they were skeptical if anything would change if they outsource the marketing campaign but later decided to give us a try. What we discovered is that they have a very high-quality and competitively prices products but have low sales due to their marketing strategy.

Identifying the Real Problem

Before we proceeded with creating the ads, we first conducted a thorough audit of their previous marketing efforts and our findings show that:

  • Their ad campaign targeting was too broad and not well-targeted
  • Their ad copy wasn’t communicating the right emotional pull
  • Their land page wasn’t well optimized for conversions, and the call-to-action wasn’t clear enough, plus slow load time

Simple put, they had great products but week sales funnel. Until that is fixed, every ad they run will amount to wasting their limited ad budget. Therefore, we proposed a simple yet powerful approached that involved a 10-day ad campaign with as little as $500. Here are the steps we take in ensuring the campaign is a success:

Step 1: Understanding the Ideal Customer

The first step towards running a successful campaign is to identify the target audience. We took time to research and understand their ideal customers according to their age range and location, interests and online behaviour, pain points and purchasing behaviour.

With insights from their previous website visitors and customer data, we were able to create custom and lookalike audiences on Meta Ads Manager. The custom audiences helped us to reach people who had previous interacted with the business, while the lookalike audience assisted us in finding new prospects similar to the existing buyers. With this approach, every dollar spend went towards people that are most likely to buy.

Step 2: Crafting the Offer and Message

Immediately we identified the audience persona, and we went on to craft an irresistible offer that will drive action. An offer that was designed to trigger both urgency and scarcity, two powerful psychological motivation that drive action quickly.

The next approach was to write a compelling ad copy that focused on the features and benefits of the products. We wrote an emotionally evoking content highlight the benefits and trust as:

  • How the product helps solve real problems
  • Testimonials from customers that have used the product
  • A simple, action-oriented language that will push the customers.

Also, with life-style visuals, we were able to show that real people are using the  products already. With this, the ad is more authentic, relatable, and action driven.

Step 3: Optimizing Ad Placement and Budget

Considering that we are dealing with a limited ad budget, we needed to be strategic. With the previous available data, we were able to detect high-performing regions and top ad placements which are Facebook Feeds, and Instagram Stories. Our budget allocation method includes starting with a small amount to test multiple creatives and increase the budget of the best performing ones after monitoring the results daily. This ensures that the campaign is cost-effective.

Step 4: Building a Conversion-Focused Landing Page

An effective ad without a corresponding attractive landing page will not yield the desired result. Thus, we redesigned their landing page to match the ad’s message and remove distracting elements. The landing page optimization include:

  • A clear, bold, benefit-driven headline
  • Appealing visuals and testimonials
  • Clear call-to-action button
  • A timer counting down to mirror the ad urgency

In addition, we also optimized the load time and mobile responsiveness, which say the conversion rate shoot up drastically.

Step 5: Capturing and Nurturing Leads

While the primary objective was to get sales, we also saw an opportunity to build a long-lasting value through email marketing campaigns. We included a simple lead magnet, giving off a 10% discount on first orders to encourage customers to drop their emails.

While the main goal was to drive sales, we also saw an opportunity to build long-term value through email marketing. In a space of 10 days, about 200 plus new subscribers have joined the list. We plan to nurture the leads through follow-up campaigns exclusive offers, and product recommendations, turning one-time customers into repeat buyers.

The outcome exceeded expectations. We spent $500 and generated $5000 in revenue with 200 plus email subscribers, which translates to a 10x return on ad spend (ROAS). Outside the numbers, the brand gained higher visibility, repeat sales potential, and trust.
